Music heals. This is the principal that Harmonic Humanity is based on. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area and founded by social artist, Al Lovewins and “social architect and musician” Joseph Jacques, Harmonic Humanity is a music outreach organization primarily serving the homeless population. But music touches us all and is an inherently human mechanism with power and purpose.

It’s 2009. There are people in America dieing every day, of preventable diseases, due to the inhumane policies and practices of insurance companies. There are people loosing their homes every day because they can’t afford to pay their mortgage and their medical bills. This is the world we live in.

Unfortunately, the insurance companies of the world are doing everything within their power to paint the president’s health care plan as something that is going to invade your privacy and your rights. You don’t have to live by the ocean for it to impact you and for you to impact it. Your actions and choices inland effect one of the most endangered ecosystems on our planet. Coral reefs are the rain forests of the sea. Just as the rain forests provide a harbor for some of the worlds oldest and most diverse species of plants and animals, so do our reefs. Reefs are living things. Not only that but they provide a home for many other marine plants and animals.

Sadly, our reefs are in great danger. Plastics are poisoning our oceans and our reefs. That plastic bag your sandwich comes in, the plastic water bottle you tossed in the trash, the extra plastic wrapper on every CD you buy…all of it adds up and most of it does not get properly recycled. Much of the plastic produced ends up in the ocean. It degrades over time and acts as a poison to our reefs, not to mention that sea turtles often mistake plastic bags for one of their favorite snacks, jellyfish.

Thankfully there are organizations like Reef Relief focused on rigorous scientific understanding to educate the public. Reef Relief acts as an advocate to policymakers to achieve conservation, protection and restoration of coral reefs. Find out what you can do to help them with their mission HERE.
